Wink Some advice?

Hey all, whats a good mesmer secondary and build to try and base off of for the prophecies campaign? Im just coming back never did finish prophecies or play a mesmer before so I thought I'd give it a shot but since I know its a difficult class to play I figured I'd see if anyone could give me some tips? Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out. (Im not looking for a tell me exactly what to do kinda thing, just something to go by, thanks).

hmmm, a good secondary... Well, you can't go wrong with a secondary for mesmer (for prophices)

Elementalist - Fast cast Flare or other powerful spell is helpful
Warrior - IWAY (Illusionary Weaponary) is possible for PvE
Monk - this is a good one, you could go all heal, healing prayers + fast casting. Or for some good self heal
Ranger - Not sure... IWAY bow maybe better in PvE, for the range. Plus with speeds spells in beast mastery.
Necromacer - nothing to say here but, either fast casting health steal or super hexing (I recomend)

Good choices:
elementalist - for [skill]glyph of lesser energy[/skill]
Fire spells will deal lots of damage during the first part of the campaign, as elemental damage is armor dependant and ennemies have crappy armor before the desert.

necromancer - good hex synergy.

Monk - for hard resurection spells (as opposed to resurection signet)
Don't try to do a Monk's job though.

Not so good choices:
Warrior - no good reason to go melee with a caster's armor, and tactics has few to offer

Ranger - very little synergy with mesmer skills

I'd follow Utaku's suggestions, Fluffy Butt's are somewhat terrible.

NOT true

Who uses FLARE????? I mean honestly, its the stupidest ele skill

First, IWAY doesnt = Illusionary Weaponry, IWAY is a warrior skill... Also, IW is pretty dead nowadays.

You wont make a good monk on a Me/Mo because you have no monk runes....

Actually, the only synergy Me/R has is with Fevered Dreams...

Me/E - Glyph of Lesser Energy, utilizing fast casting on slow spells (Meteor Shower, Maelstrom, Mark Of Rodgort's, etc.), glyph of concentration

Me/W - Flury+Illusionary Weapon, I suppose stances.

Me/R - Fragility (weak, but still...), Interupter, Epidemic/Fevered Dreams (e), stances, better healing (troll ungent)

Me/Mo - fast casting smiter, support healer, support protector, hex remover specialist, fastest rezer in town (not a good excuse to go Me/Mo in my opinion).

Me/N - hex synergies; plague sending + Illusion of Haste (crippling when it ends, then send it on foes chasing you); blood magic is better selfhealing than inspiration magic.

Basically, just don't do whatever this person said and you'll be fine. I don't know if they were serious or kidding. I sure hope they were kidding.

For a note: IW doesn't work with a bow, or a spear, or a wand. It only works with Melee Weaponry. (IWAY = I Will Avenge You)

If you're going to go Me/Mo, Prot would be the way to go since the divine favor bonus wouldn't hurt you all too much...healing would just be lame.

I'd say try and run a mostly mesmer bar. As a mesmer you'll be doing more "area specific" battling. You need to know the enemies in the area and you need to bring skills to counter them. No one mesmer bar will get you through the game. (Well, maybe an E-Surge Domination bar would...)

An Me/Mo can be main healer.
It's very specific as to where though.
Vizuhna square for example. My friend put together a really motley pug, and he didn't have the heart to kick anyone to grab a monk henchie, so I had no choice but to come up with a healer build.
I was using Mantra of Recovery and Channeling to machine gun heals.
After the mission I went outside to have a heart attack, but it worked.

The biggest problem with healing spells is that they all do the same thing, and mostly not efficiently. Hence taking an elite to just use the same heals more doesn't do much. You'd have been better off with something like WoH, or maybe LoD.

I would be tempted to say LoD would make a decent Healing-Mesmer Elite, since you don't suffer from the lack of a divine favor bonus. Maybe use heal party, healing seed, and other healing-skills where the lack of Divine Favor won't be so evident. And then e-management skills, of course.

I've played a Me/Mo healer before for THK a long time ago, it just didn't have the oomph needed to be a "real" primary support.
